STUDENT ATTENDANCE

The State of Mississippi requires us to use the following attendance laws: (See Page 3 of the Handbook)

  1. If a student in grades 7-12 is taking a one semester course, he/she is allowed to miss that class only 10 times and still be given credit.
  2. If a student in grades 7-12 is taking a two semester course, he/she is allowed to miss that class only 20 times and still be given credit.
  3. If a student in grades 7-12 misses part of the school day, he/she is still counted absent in the class that is missed and this absence will count toward the 10 or 20 day total in that specific class. Partial attendance during the school day does not count for a full day of attendance.
  4. If a student in grades K5-6th grade is to be promoted to the next grade, he/she can only miss 20 total days of school.
  5. Absences due to school-sponsored activities are not counted in the total, but ALL other absences count including Doctor’s excuses. An exception may be made by the Headmaster in case of an extended illness such as a hospital stay.
  6. The handbook says that when a student receives his/her third tardy, the student will be placed in detention and will also be placed in detention with each subsequent tardy for the remainder of that semester. Some students already have three and will begin to serve detention on their next tardy.
